Following the presentation of the convertible version of the new Fiat 500 “la Prima” in Milan in March, the all-electric Fiat 500 can now also be reserved as a sedan, again as a special model “la Prima”. The new Fiat 500 cleverly combines the electric and sustainable soul of the brand icon with the unmistakable design and attention to detail that is typical of the best “Made in Italy” products.
With even softer and more rounded lines than the previous generation, the new Fiat 500 “la Prima” retains the famous carefree feeling of the “Cinquecento”, as the model is known in Italy. The new Fiat 500 also faces the increasing complexity – and occasional limitations – of driving in the city with a cheerful smile. At a time when mobility must be more sustainable, connected and autonomous, the third generation of the Fiat 500 also brings plenty of design and driving pleasure. The new Fiat 500 is not just a revolution, it revives a spirit that inspires renewal. As in the 1950s and 1960s, when the first generation of the “Cinquecento” enabled an entire generation to have individual mobility, the new Fiat 500 now channels a positive attitude to life and gives electric mobility in the city a new dimension and a personality of its own.
The new Fiat 500 “la Prima” is available as a sedan from 34.900 euros*.
The new Fiat 500 “la Prima“ – the standard equipment
The new special model Fiat 500 “la Prima” is equipped as standard with a panoramic glass roof, which acts as a real window to the sky and floods the passenger compartment with light, increasing comfort and well-being on board. On the upper edge of the tailgate, a redesigned roof spoiler improves aerodynamic efficiency. There is a choice of three exclusive paint finishes inspired by nature: Ocean Green (metallic) is reminiscent of the sea, Mineral Grey (metallic) represents the earth and the three-layer Sky Blue paint symbolizes the sky. The Fiat 500 “la Prima” is also available in Onyx Black.
The standard equipment also includes full-LED headlights, 17-inch diamond-finish alloy wheels, chrome-plated inserts in the side protective strips, and seat covers and dashboard trim made of eco-leather([2]).
The new Fiat 500 “la Prima“ – the design
The silhouette of the new Fiat 500 is as iconic as the interior, which has been further developed for the third generation of the series. The overall look is even more dynamic and striking. The body contributes to improving aerodynamic efficiency and range, including the redesigned roof spoiler on the rear edge of the roof.

The more pronounced tailgate underlines the visual presence of the new Fiat 500. Clear and curved lines of the body make the vehicle even more elegant and sculptural. The new Fiat brand logo can be seen above the rear license plate. The horizontal lines of the rear emphasize the width of the vehicle.
Optimal solutions for range, charging and driving
Range and charging times are the two most important features that buyers of electric vehicles pay attention to. The new Fiat 500 "la Prima" has lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 42 kWh on board, which allow a driving range of up to 320 kilometers according to the WLTP standard (World Wide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure).
To optimise charging times, the new Fiat 500 "la Prima" is equipped with a fast charging system that allows a charging current of up to 85 kW. With fast charging (DC charging with cable Mode 4), the batteries are charged enough to cover a distance of around 50 kilometres after just five minutes of charging - more than the average daily requirement. In this mode, the battery is also charged to 35 percent in just 80 minutes. The new Fiat 500 is equipped with a so-called CCS2 connection (Combo 2) on the rear right side panel, which allows charging with both direct and alternating current. The intelligent control enables programmable charging and provides feedback on the vehicle's charging status[3].
For the market launch of its first electric vehicle, Fiat is also offering innovative solutions for home charging stations. For example, an Easy WallboxTM is available for the special model Fiat 500 "la Prima", which is connected to a conventional 230-volt socket ([4]). Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) developed this technology together with ENGIE EPS, a leading specialist in energy storage systems and microgrids. The Easy WallboxTM is marketed in Europe by Mopar®. In the basic configuration, the Easy WallboxTM enables the batteries of the Fiat 500 to be charged with up to 2,3 kW. In addition, the new Fiat 500 "la Prima" has a Mode 3 cable as standard, which enables charging at public stations with up to 11 kW.
The new Fiat 500 offers three driving modes: Normal, Range and Sherpa. In Sherpa mode, named after the legendary mountain guides in the Himalayas, the entire system is configured to achieve the greatest possible range. Sherpa mode limits the maximum driving speed to 80 km/h, the implementation of accelerator pedal commands is particularly efficient, and consumers such as air conditioning or seat heating are automatically switched off. Of course, these can be reactivated at any time if required. Sherpa mode ensures as far as possible that, for example, a destination programmed in the navigation system or the nearest charging station is reached.
In Normal mode, the new Fiat 500 can be driven almost like a conventional vehicle with a combustion engine. If the drive program selector is set to Range, with a little practice it is possible to control the new Fiat 500 using only the accelerator pedal. With so-called "one-pedal driving", simply releasing the accelerator pedal initiates braking without the brake pedal having to be pressed as well. The brake pedal is practically only needed to bring the vehicle to a complete standstill. At the same time, Range mode optimizes the recovery of energy during braking (recuperation), which in turn increases the range.
The electric drive of the new Fiat 500 has an output of 87 kW (comparable to 118 hp). The top speed is limited to 150 km/h. The vehicle accelerates from a standstill to 50 km/h in 3,1 seconds, and 100 km/h is reached after 9,0 seconds.
Level 2 Autonomous Driving and Connectivity
Striking, exclusive and always connected to the Internet - the new Fiat 500 "la Prima" is a high-tech vehicle. The standard equipment includes the autonomous emergency braking assistant with pedestrian and cyclist detection, a high-resolution rear view camera, light sensor and high beam assistant, automatic emergency call (eCall) and the electric parking brake. Thanks to numerous electronic driver assistance systems (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems ADAS), the new Fiat 500 "la Prima" masters level 2 autonomous driving.

The on-board systems include cameras that monitor the area around the longitudinal and transverse axes of the vehicle. The Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (iACC) reacts by braking or accelerating, taking into account not only other vehicles, but also cyclists and pedestrians. The lane keeping assistant (Lane Centering) keeps the new Fiat 500 “la Prima” in the middle of the lane, provided that this is precisely defined by lines.
The Intelligent Speed Assistant recognizes speed limit signs and asks drivers to obey them. The further developed Urban Blind Spot Assistant uses ultrasonic sensors to detect objects in the so-called blind spot of the exterior mirrors and activates a corresponding warning signal in the form of a triangle on the mirror surfaces. The Attention Assist recognizes a lack of concentration on the part of the driver and recommends a break by activating a corresponding symbol. The new Fiat 500 “la Prima” is also equipped with “360° Drone View”, a 360-degree camera system that creates an image during parking maneuvers, for example, as if a drone were hovering over the vehicle.
The special model Fiat 500 "la Prima" comes as standard with a seven-inch (17,8 centimeter) TFT monitor as the central instrument and the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a screen diagonal of 10,25 inches (26 centimeters) and integrated navigation system. The system allows the convenient integration of smartphones, is compatible with Apple Car Play** and Android Auto** and enables access to Internet-based services from Uconnect Services via the Telematic Box module.
The new Fiat 500 is the first vehicle model from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to be equipped with the fifth generation Uconnect infotainment system. Uconnect 5 is the platform designed for the future. Developed by FCA and based on the almost infinitely customizable Android Automotive operating system, Uconnect 5 creates a completely new user experience. For example, the graphic display of functions and applications can be freely designed using so-called widgets. Uconnect 5 is controlled via a high-resolution touchscreen with a screen diagonal of 10,25 inches (26 centimeters) in 16:9 format, which is perfectly integrated into the dashboard of the new Fiat 500. The controls have been specifically designed to avoid distractions while driving.
In combination with the Telematics Box module, Uconnect 5 offers the following innovative connectivity functions in addition to the mandatory automatic emergency call (eCall):
– My:Assistant: Establishes contact with a service center, for example to request a breakdown service or to get help with other problems. The owner also receives a monthly status report on his vehicle by email.
– My:Remote: Allows you to check the battery charge level and control charging functions via your smartphone, for example to take advantage of periods with particularly cheap electricity tariffs. This function also allows you to locate the vehicle, lock or unlock the doors, turn the lights on or off, program the air conditioning and send alarm messages as soon as the vehicle leaves a defined area or exceeds a certain speed.
– My:Car: Provides information on the most important operating conditions of the vehicle, such as battery charge level, tire pressure or mileage; also reminds you of inspection appointments.
– My:Navigation: This application not only allows you to send an externally created route description to the vehicle's navigation system, but also displays information on the weather and traffic situation. The information also includes charging stations along the route; the system takes the current charge level of the vehicle battery into account. The underlying map data is automatically updated online.
– My:eCharge: Manages charging processes, be it at public charging stations, which can also be booked and paid for via My:eCharge, or via the wallbox at home.[5]
– My:Wi-Fi: Creates a mobile hotspot in the vehicle, which allows up to eight devices to access the Internet using the 4G standard. It also enables voice commands to be entered using the voice recognition system, which is based on Amazon Alexa technology.
– My:Theft Assistance: In the event of unauthorized access, the vehicle owner is informed immediately. As soon as the theft is officially confirmed, the service center will help to find the vehicle.
The Fiat 500 places great value on connectivity. It communicates with its owner on board and outside the vehicle. For example, it is possible to program the navigation system and adjust the temperature of the interior before setting off. The new Fiat 500 establishes a connection to the driver's smartphone in around five seconds, and no cable is needed to charge the smartphone**.

The Uconnect 5 infotainment system with 10,25-inch monitor and integrated navigation system also offers a module for advanced voice control (natural language), which allows the air conditioning and radio, among other things, to be operated using verbal input commands.
