Italian Post honors classic Fiat 500 with its own stamp
Just in time for its 60th birthday on July 4, 2017, the Italian Post Office issued a stamp in honor of the classic Fiat 500. The collector's stamp, printed in a limited edition of one million, was presented at the Fiat Mirafiori plant in Turin, the place where the vehicle, then called the "Nuova Cinquecento", was manufactured from 1957 onwards.
The stamp, worth 95 cents, features the silhouette of the classic car that is now coveted worldwide, projected onto the body of a current, now hardly less famous Fiat 500. On a blue background, there is also a band in the colors of the Italian flag that frames the words "Fiat Nuova 500" and the date 1957-2017. The look is reminiscent of the graphics of historical posters that advertised the Fiat 1957 in 500. The small work of art celebrates the cult automobile that made dreams come true and provided previously unknown freedom.

The Fiat 500 is not only a prime example of Italian design. It has also enabled millions of people to enjoy individual mobility. It has literally put Italy on four wheels. But exports have always played a major role. More than 500 percent of the current Fiat 80 production is sold outside of Italy. The Fiat 500 is the best-selling car in eight European countries, and in six others it is among the top three in the registration statistics.
In the 60 years since its official presentation on July 4, 1957, the Fiat 500 has become an automotive icon. This is due to its high level of functionality and versatility, its unique design and its unmistakable character. As a mass-produced car, the Fiat 500 has also shaped an entire vehicle class. The modern successor model continued this tradition in 2007. The current Fiat 500 also impresses with innovative technology that has ensured worldwide sales success. Only a few manufacturers can build on such an impressive history.

Even after 60 years, the Fiat 500 is once again setting out for new goals without neglecting its roots as an icon of Italian design. On its way, it remains full of youthful vigor, thanks to continuous development and ever new model variants, with which the series regularly gains in diversity and attractiveness.
