New additions to the “Alfa Romeo Myth” at the Sinsheim Technology Museum:…
– Entire hall with 3.000 square meters is dedicated to Alfa Romeo.
– Around 40 exhibits from Alfa Romeo’s 110-year history.
– Three original vehicles that achieved record laps on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, new to the exhibition: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and Alfa Romeo 4C.
Since last autumn, the special exhibition "Alfa Romeo Myth" at the Sinsheim Technology Museum has delighted thousands of fans of the Italian brand. The show, which includes around 40 exhibits, now has three new additions.
All three have set lap records on the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. Alfa Romeo 4C, Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio completed the “green hell”, as former Formula 1 world champion Jackie Stewart called it, faster than their competitors in the vehicle segment.
It doesn't get any better than this – three lap records in the "Green Hell"
The Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, which opened in 1927, is considered the most difficult race track in the world, and not only by professionals, but is now best known for the annual 24-hour race. Aside from motorsport, the almost 21-kilometer roller-coaster track in the Eifel is also used as a demanding test track for sports production vehicles. A lap record on the Nordschleife is something of an accolade for any new model.
In 2013, the then new Alfa Romeo 4C set out to set a new lap record on the Nordschleife for vehicles with less than 250 hp. The coupé, which weighed less than 900 kilograms and featured a carbon fiber monocoque, aluminum chassis and body made of innovative plastic, was powered by a 1,8-liter turbo gasoline engine with 177 kW (240 hp).1) Driven by performance. The stopwatch finally stopped at a previously unachieved time of 8:04 minutes – mission accomplished.
Three years later, the then new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio improved the lap record for four-door saloons to 7:32 minutes. This record was guaranteed by the 375 kW (510 hp) 2,9-liter V6 biturbo gasoline engine under the hood, the ultra-fast eight-speed automatic transmission, the active differential in the rear axle and the sophisticated aerodynamics with an active front splitter and rear spoiler made of carbon fiber as standard. The low vehicle weight, achieved in part by using carbon fiber as the material for the hood, roof and drive shaft, also contributed to the lap record.
In autumn 2017, an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio plunged into the labyrinth of curves on the Nordschleife to set a new lap record for SUVs. Also powered by the 375 kW (510 hp) V6 biturbo engine and the Alfa Q4 all-wheel drive systemTM, the high-performance SUV only needed 19 seconds longer than the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio sports sedan. Up until then, no SUV had completed a lap of the historic part of the Nürburgring in 7:51 minutes.
