Fiat Chrysler Automobiles opens e-Village in Turin – Car dealership…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has opened its first car dealership exclusively for electric and hybrid vehicles in Turin. The e-Village is located in the "Green Pea" complex, a unique architectural project with a focus on environmental technology on the site of the former Fiat Lingotto plant in the northern Italian metropolis.

"The 'Green Pea' complex is the ideal location for FCA's green jewels," commented Olivier François, President of Fiat and Chief Marketing Officer FCA. "In this innovative facility, we can show the new face of mobility. And not just with cars, but also with heart, soul and senses. e-Village should be simple and restrained, because simplicity and restraint go hand in hand with sustainability. 'Less is more' is rule number one when it comes to sustainability. But rule number two is thinking outside the box. The new e-Village will not only show the technology of our cars. It will also present innovative solutions for purchasing, renting, sharing, our new services, payment systems and new applications."

The "Green Pea" complex comprises five floors dedicated to changing people's relationship with energy, movement, housing, clothing and leisure. "Green Pea" has clearly defined geometries and follows the guiding principle of overall ecological awareness: zero impact on the environment. Three rules characterize the architectural project: reuse, recycle, reduce. The result is an innovative showcase for the mobility of the future. Many of the furnishings were made in collaboration with Stay Green, a designer and manufacturer of sustainable products "Made in Italy". Stay Green produces from recycled raw materials or reuses exhibition components that were previously used at automobile shows, for example. A highlight are large textile surfaces made from theBreath^®, a revolutionary material that can significantly reduce air pollution thanks to its absorbent properties.

FCA's new e-Village is located on the ground floor of "Green Pea". In a space of over 1.300 square meters, the best technologies in the field of green thinking come together. FCA, FCA Bank/Leasys and Mopar^® are jointly presenting an environmentally conscious and sustainable product range that is geared towards the well-being of the environment and the future of mobility. On display are the fully electric Fiat 500 and Fiat E-Ducato as well as the hybrid vehicles of the brands Fiat, Jeep_® and - exclusively for the Italian market - Lancia. Visitors to the e-Village can also learn about the Fiat Centoventi concept car, which offers a whole range of innovative solutions, including modular batteries for a scalable range, sustainable materials and reusable plug-and-play accessories. Also on display is an Alfa Romeo Tonale concept car, which will be the brand's second SUV model to be launched in 2021 and will then also be available in a plug-and-play hybrid version. The new e-Village, organizationally part of the Mirafiori Motor Village, also offers space for accessories and merchandising items from the group's brands, as well as a conference room.

At the heart of FCA's Sustainable Mobility strategy is the reconciliation of customer needs with environmental protection. This strategy reflects the desire to address environmental issues. One of the biggest challenges in this process for all car manufacturers is the redesign of mobility as a whole. Major changes are essential and must respond to customer demands, which are constantly evolving and expect ever greater attention to the environment.

FCA is committed to creating the conditions for mobility to become more sustainable and for e-mobility to be a smart choice for customers right from the start. FCA has created a structured, environmentally friendly and economically competitive system that brings together partners, products and services across sectors. The aim is to simplify the use of electric cars and electrified vehicles. The FCA eMobility division promotes a new interpretation and experience of mobility that reconciles customer needs and concern for the environment.

The fully electric Fiat 500
The main attraction in the e-Village is the new Fiat 500, which is fully electric and is available in sedan and convertible body versions as well as the completely new 3+1 version. The new Fiat 500 is a prime example of the Italian virtues of style, tradition, innovation, craftsmanship and technology. The front of the vehicle, the face with the unmistakable headlights, contrasts with the modern, clean lines of the body and conveys a powerful, robust character. The interior continues with references to the historic predecessor, including the round instrument panel and the two-spoke steering wheel. Apart from these borrowings, the interior has been completely redesigned to improve comfort and space. The technological content and the numerous services that create a world around the new Fiat 500 are also innovative.

The new Fiat 500 is a completely new development, designed exclusively for electric drive. Clever solutions include the batteries housed in a block in the vehicle floor between the axles. This made it possible to create generous space for the interior and luggage compartment. At the same time, the low, central center of gravity has a positive effect on the driving dynamics of the Italian electric vehicle.

The result of this strategy is an agile car that is fun to drive, comfortable and quiet, and connected to the Internet even when on the move. The new Fiat 500 is a compact car suitable for use in the city, as easy to use as a smartphone. With a comparatively long range, the new Fiat 500 is the only car in this class to be able to drive autonomously at level 2, naturally with zero local emissions.

The new Fiat 500 is available in three trim levels: ACTION, PASSION and ICON, each offering specific features. All three offer a high standard in terms of technology, connectivity and safety.

Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid
In addition to the new Fiat Panda, the mild hybrid variants of the Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda can also be seen in the e-Village. Fiat's mild hybrid engine combines a three-cylinder petrol engine from the FireFly series, which generates 51 kW (70 hp) from a liter of displacement, with a belt starter generator (RSG), which works in the 12-volt electrical system and supports the combustion engine with an output of 3,6 kW when starting. The RSG draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 11 Ah. A new six-speed gearbox, which is tailored to the characteristics of the mild hybrid drive, ensures the power is transmitted to the front axle.

The hybrid system improves fuel efficiency without compromising performance. Compared to the four-cylinder petrol engine 1.2 8V with 50 kW (69 hp) from the FIRE series, CO₂-Emissions are reduced by an average of 20 percent, and by up to 30 percent in the new Fiat Panda Cross. In addition, the RSG system enables the automatic start-stop system to operate much more comfortably and without vibrations than a conventional starter motor. Buyers also benefit from all the advantages of the hybrid vehicle's type approval, which, in addition to meeting the Euro 6D Final emissions standard, can also include free access and freedom of movement in the city center, cheaper parking in the city center and tax relief, depending on local regulations.

Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe
Electrification is a fundamental aspect of Jeep's future strategy and represents the desire to become a leader in sophisticated, greener technologies, while maintaining the brand's historic values of adventure, authenticity, freedom and passion. With plug-in hybrid electric technology, Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe offer the best performance and driving pleasure of the two ranges. Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe are literally able to go anywhere and do anything. At the same time, they are ideal cars for everyday use in the city thanks to plug-in hybrid technology, which enables locally emission-free driving with an average range of up to 50 kilometers (measured according to the NEDC2 cycle) in fully electric mode.

The new Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe Plug-in-Hybrid models are available in the Limited, S and Trailhawk trim levels. All variants are equipped with four-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. There is a choice of two power levels with 140 kW (190 hp) or 177 kW (260 hp) system output. The Business trim level is also available for the Jeep Compass 4xe.

A characteristic feature of both models is the wide range of body colors. The Jeep Renegade has 18 single or two-tone variants, some in combination with a black roof, and the Jeep Compass even has 22 versions. Jeep has developed a comprehensive range of charging solutions for public and private areas around the electrified drive systems, with the easyWallbox at the center.

The Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic
The Lancia Ypsilon is still available in Italy. The new model version Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic, which is available in Silver and Gold trim levels, is equipped with the same mild hybrid drive as the Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid.

The Fiat E-Ducato

The Fiat E-Ducato is offered with modularly scalable battery sizes that ensure ranges in a typical urban delivery cycle of 200 to over 360 kilometers, depending on environmental conditions, battery type and charging configuration. In addition, the fully electric van has high performance potential. The speed is limited to 100 km/h. The power is 90 kW, the maximum torque is 280 Newton meters. The new electric motor underlines the strengths of the Fiat E-Ducato. These include the best-in-class loading volume of ten to 17 cubic meters and the best-in-class payload of up to 1.950 kilograms. In addition, the Fiat E-Ducato offers modern connectivity, for example for managing vehicle fleets.

Mopar's offer^®
Mopar’s offer^® to the electrified vehicle models from Fiat and Jeep will be presented in the new e-Village in the “Green Pea” complex. In particular, Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe can be equipped with a wide range of authentic accessories from Mopar^® Both models are available with more than 100 accessories that emphasize their versatility as a vehicle for both city and off-road use. These include the new 4xe package, which includes blue styling accents for the bonnet and exterior mirror caps, as well as high-quality floor mats.

For the fully electric Fiat 500, Mopar is concentrating^® on fashionable elements, for example with the brass, chrome and matt grey Maratea packages. A special storage set for the charging cable, which increases its service life, has great practical value. Also available are 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a large selection of roof racks.

The offer of FCA Bank
Shared and electric mobility are two important cornerstones of the ecological sustainability strategy of the FCA Bank Group, which also presents its offering in the "Green Pea" complex. Among other things, a charging station for the new Fiat 500 operated by Leasys is on display.

In 2020, FCA Bank also introduced a range of financing solutions with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. The “Be-Hybrid” program links the purchase of a hybrid or electric car to the planting of a tree, organized by the environmental organization Treedom. The functional side of the Fiat family, consisting of the best-selling models Fiat Tipo and Fiat Panda, has been completely renewed. Both models are now structured in three equipment lines with clear differentiation: Life, Sport and Cross. Fiat Tipo Life and Fiat Panda Life are aimed at customers who enjoy city life to the fullest.

The Sport trim levels are aimed at people with an active lifestyle who are looking for a distinctive style. The Cross versions of the Fiat Tipo and Fiat Panda are perfect for adventurers who also want to use their car to explore nature or simply take a break from everyday life. The most important innovations also include three additional new models: Fiat Tipo Cross, Fiat Tipo City Sport and Fiat Panda Sport. With this refreshed range, the Fiat Tipo and Fiat Panda are tailored to the needs of a new target group and significantly expand Fiat's range.

The Fiat Tipo Cross is a real innovation within the completely renewed Tipo range. As a crossover, it appeals to young families with an active lifestyle who are looking for functionality and plenty of space, but also style and good equipment at an affordable price. The Fiat Tipo City Sport, which was presented as a world premiere, is aimed at young and dynamic customers who expect their car to have an independent character, a sporty style and technological innovation. The new Fiat Tipo City Sport meets all of this and is also characterized by a striking design, exemplary safety and infotainment systems and a new and efficient range of engines.

The Fiat Panda has also been renewed in terms of style and technology. The new generation represents the natural evolution of a car that has been synonymous with charm, ease of use and versatility for 40 years. The Fiat Panda is a symbol of freedom of travel, a vehicle of emotions and memories, but also a product of genius that, like other works of Italian creativity, has become part of the collective consciousness.

The year 2020 that is coming to an end was a very important one for the Fiat brand. The strategic journey began in February with the presentation of the Fiat Panda Hybrid and the Fiat 500 Hybrid. Both models are equipped with efficient, compact, lightweight and cost-effective hybrid powertrains. The next step was the presentation of the new Fiat 500 "la Prima", the first fully electric car from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Another highlight was the presentation of the entire range of the new Fiat 500, including the exceptional 3+1 body variant, in October at the Pinacoteca Agnelli art gallery in Turin. The first sales data for the new Fiat 500 and the hybrid versions of the Fiat Panda and Fiat 500 confirm that the path taken is the right one. To date, around 100.000 units have been sold, with the shares being approximately 50:50.

The new Fiat Tipo Cross
The Fiat Tipo family is growing. The Fiat Tipo Cross complements the tried and tested body styles of 5-door, 1-door sedan[XNUMX] and station wagon. As a true crossover, the new Fiat Tipo Cross is aimed at a completely new target group. Many families, who were previously the regular customers of the Fiat Tipo, have changed their preferences. Conventional five-door cars and station wagons are no longer the optimum. Instead, families have moved closer to the world of crossovers. Today they expect a more emotional, distinctive, dynamic and younger car at an affordable price, without having to sacrifice space and comfort. The new Fiat Tipo Cross is the perfect answer to these wishes.

Accordingly, the design of the new Fiat Tipo Cross is decidedly more powerful and bolder. The vehicle appears significantly wider, especially due to the redesigned grille, which extends below the headlights and is significantly higher. This is a typical crossover element.

The body of the new Fiat Tipo Cross is raised by almost four centimeters and appears more robust. This is due to a modified geometry of the wheel suspension and larger wheels. This solution can already be seen on another crossover from the brand, the Fiat 500X. These measures raise the seating position, which also makes getting in and out easier. Other actions that are important for families are also easier, such as putting children in the back seats or finding things that may have slipped under the seats.

Overall, the new Fiat Tipo Cross is almost seven centimeters higher than the Fiat Tipo sedan. This is due to the new Cross details, which give the new Fiat Tipo Cross a particularly solid and muscular look. These include fender flares and side skirts, an underbody guard, specific front and rear bumpers, a distinctive front bull bar and roof rails that were previously only available for the Fiat Tipo station wagon.

One detail stands out from the equipment of the new Fiat Tipo Cross: the freely configurable TFT monitor with a 7,0 inch (17,8 centimetre) screen diagonal, which replaces the conventional analogue central instrument. In addition, the new Fiat Tipo is the first vehicle of the brand, alongside the new Fiat 500, to be equipped with the UConnect infotainment system.^TM 5 of the fifth generation. The system, designed for the connected services of the future, is operated via a 10,25-inch screen (26 centimetres diagonal). To offer an uncomplicated and convenient user experience, UConnect builds^TM 5 on the Android Auto* operating system. Uconnect^TM 5 with Apple CarPlay* and Android Auto* allows wireless use of CarPlay* functions on the radio's touchscreen with customizable profiles. Up to five configurations can be saved.

Fiat Panda and Fiat Tipo series completely renewed, additionally new variants Fiat Panda Sport and Fiat Tipo Cross

The engine range of the new Fiat Tipo offers three alternatives. The GSE 1.0 petrol engine is a 74 kW (100 hp) three-cylinder engine that combines low fuel consumption and emissions. The engine produces a maximum torque of 190 Newton meters at just 1.500 rpm. By comparison: the previous 1,4-liter petrol engine delivers a maximum torque of 127 Nm at 4.500 rpm. The new three-cylinder engine ensures great driving pleasure and offers optimal acceleration even at low speeds thanks to the advantageous torque curve. The gear ratio ensures optimal response in city traffic and high comfort on the highway. For example, at a cruising speed of 130 km/h, the engine speed is just 3.200 rpm.^-1.

The two Multijet turbodiesels in the new Fiat Tipo meet the Euro 6D Final emissions standard and offer better performance than the previous versions. The four-cylinder 1.3 Multijet produces 70 kW (95 hp), while the new 1.6 Multijet turbodiesel with 96 kW (130 hp) represents an increase in performance compared to the previous turbodiesel (88 kW/120 hp). This engine is particularly suitable for vehicle fleets, making the Fiat Tipo a strategically positioned vehicle in the C segment.

The new Fiat Tipo City Sport
The new Fiat Tipo City Sport, which can be ordered from the end of the first quarter of 2021, is the ideal car for customers who are attracted to a young, sporty style, with a good dose of verve, dynamism and technology. At first glance, the new Fiat Tipo City Sport can be recognized by its exclusive look. This is created, among other things, by the "Sport" lettering, the exclusive Metropolitano Gray paintwork, the 18-inch diamond-finish alloy wheels and glossy black details on the body, including an insert in the lower part of the front bumper, the bull bar strips on the doors, the cover caps of the exterior mirrors and the door handles. The redesigned radiator grille with the FIAT lettering is also in glossy black - a visible statement for the renewal of the range. The new Fiat Tipo is the second model of the brand to bear this logo after the new Fiat 500.

For an even more modern look, the new Fiat Tipo City Sport is equipped with headlights and taillights in full LED technology as standard. They not only emphasise the lines of the car, but also improve active and passive safety thanks to better visibility. LEDs also reduce the car's power consumption and thus CO₂emissions, which in turn is in perfect harmony with Fiat's pursuit of greater sustainability down to the smallest detail.

The powerful, sporty appearance of the new Fiat Tipo City Sport continues in the interior. The black roof lining and the newly designed sports steering wheel, which is slightly smaller, are striking. This improves ergonomics and the driver's view of the central 7,0-inch TFT instrument. The air conditioning controls have also been revised and fitted with newly designed inserts in chrome and black. The keyless access and start system (Keyless Entry/Go) allows the doors to be locked and unlocked and the engine to be started without having to pick up the key. In addition, the new Fiat Tipo City Sport offers a wide range of the latest electronic driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include the Adaptive High Beam, which automatically switches on the high beam when driving at night as soon as other road users are not at risk of being blinded.

The new Fiat Tipo City Sport is available as a 5-door and station wagon. The engine options include the 96 kW (130 hp) 1.6 Multijet turbo diesel and the 74 kW (100 hp) 1.0 GSE turbo petrol engine.

The new Fiat Panda Sport
The new Fiat Panda Sport is aimed at young and dynamic customers who prefer a sporty style with character. Visual features include the 16-inch alloy wheels with black and red details on the hub cap, which correspond to chrome-plated sports logos, as well as door handles and exterior mirror caps painted in the same color as the vehicle. Bicolor paint finishes - for example, body in glossy gray, roof in black - and the exclusive body color Matt Gray are available on request. The new Fiat Panda Sport is only available with the mild hybrid drive with 51 kW (70 hp).

The outstanding features of the interior of the new Fiat Panda Sport include the dashboard in titanium grey, the roof lining in black, dark grey seat covers with red contrast stitching and door panels and inserts in the seat covers made of eco-leather[2]. For even more sportiness, the "Pandemonio" equipment package is available on request, which is a tribute to the Fiat Panda 100HP from 2006. It includes an eco-leather steering wheel[3] with red stitching, red-painted brake callipers and tinted rear windows. The Fiat Panda Sport is equipped as standard with the 7" infotainment system (17,8 centimetres), including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto*.

The new Fiat Panda Sport is equipped with the innovative hybrid drive, which is now available across the entire range and meets the Euro 6D Final emissions standard. The system consists of a combination of the 51 kW (70 hp) 1,0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a belt starter generator (RSG). This generates a peak power of 3,6 kW and draws its energy from a lithium battery with 11 Ah storage capacity.

The new functional model family from Fiat
Fiat's new functional model family is versatile and flexible. The new Fiat Panda and the new Fiat Tipo offer a wealth of variants that allow every family - young or not so young, city dweller or nature lover - to choose the vehicle that best suits their different lifestyles and daily needs. You will find the optimal vehicle for daily missions big or small, such as shopping, taking the children to school, commuting to the office or taking trips out of the city.

As a starting point for the story of these people, Fiat has chosen the place that best represents this diversity of requirements: an apartment building. This is where the three target groups of the Life, Cross and Sport equipment lines meet. For example, they can choose between the hybrid drive of the Fiat Panda (51 kW/70 hp) and the turbo petrol engine (74 kW/100 hp) of the Fiat Tipo. Customers can also opt for full equipment with the most advanced electronic driver assistance systems in the new Fiat Tipo or for the innovative infotainment system of the new Fiat Panda, which for the first time includes a 7,0-inch color touchscreen, digital radio (DAB) and the functionality of Apple CarPlay* and Android Auto*.

The Fiat Tipo and Fiat Panda series are both divided into three lines: Life, Sport and Cross. The differences lie in the number of equipment and body variants. For example, the new Fiat Tipo Life is offered as a four-door sedan, five-door and station wagon in the Tipo, City Life and Life equipment variants. The Fiat Tipo Sport is available in the City Sport version as a five-door and station wagon. The Fiat Tipo Cross is available as a City Cross and Cross, but only in the five-door crossover body variant. With an identical strategy, the new Fiat Panda line is available in five different versions. Fiat Panda and Fiat Tipo – two success stories
The Fiat Tipo celebrated its world premiere in 2016. After gradual expansion, the range now consists of four body variants: four-door sedan, 5-door, station wagon and cross. From the outset, the Fiat Tipo was one of the best-selling models in the segment in Italy and throughout Europe. With a 75 percent share in markets outside Italy, the Fiat Tipo contributes greatly to the brand's overall performance. A total of around 2016 Fiat Tipos have been sold since 700.000, with the series reaching its highest foreign share in 2019.

Perhaps even more impressive is the story of the Fiat Panda, which began in 1980. After almost eight million units sold worldwide in 40 years, the Fiat Panda - together with the Fiat 500 - is currently the best-selling vehicle in Italy for the eighth year in a row and also the best-selling vehicle in its segment in Europe with 375.000 units. In 2020, the Fiat Panda recorded the best growth in its segment: +3,7 percent compared to 2019. FCA Bank SpA and I3P launch the “Digital Factory”…

– “Digital Factory” is a call from FCA Bank SpA and I3P, the incubator for innovative companies at the University of Turin, to submit innovative proposals with a view to the bank’s technological transformation process.
– Participation in the call for proposals is free for innovative start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises. Submissions will be accepted until January 6, 2021.
– The winner will be able to develop a Proof-of-Concept (PoC), working side by side with the Italian FCA Bank SpA and the Group’s subsidiaries.

Research into innovations present in Italy and abroad, promote and implement new solutions through inventions in order to promote the technological and digital transformation of the banking sector: specifically for this purpose, the FCA Bank SpA and I3P, the incubator for innovative companies of the Polytechnic of Turin, the "Digital Factory" launched, a competition for innovative start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The "Digital Factory“ focuses on the development of Fintech and Insurtech solutions, payment processes, new insurance and financial risk assessment systems, alternative credit management methods, financing and microcredit products for the automotive finance industry using algorithms and innovative methods.

The focus is on creating automated and intelligent systems to analyze insurance and financial needs and to conduct GAP analyses in order to create customized offers for new and existing customers.

Participation in the application process is free of charge and applications can be uploaded on the website digitalfactory.fcabankgroup.com/en until January 6, 2021.

The projects will be evaluated by a panel of experts, which will select the finalists by 5 February 2021. The shortlisted candidates will be able to present their proposal at the closing event in February 2021.

The winner selected by the jury will then have the opportunity and the means to Develop proof-of-concept (PoC).to test and prove the feasibility of the project on the market and then to start cooperation with FCA Bank SpA and the Group's subsidiaries.

The call for proposals for the “Digital Factory“ in collaboration with I3P – part of the “Start&Pulse” program of Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance – is a further step in the digital transformation process of FCA Bank SpA, which aims on the one hand to improve the customer experience and on the other hand to create world-class banking and insurance products.

This process, which has been undertaken to innovate the entire banking sector, has already led to significant developments in digital payments, from e-wallet (the digital wallet that provides various means of payment) to the Payment Hubwhich will enable FCA Bank to manage the large number of transactions related to vehicle-related payment services.

FCA Mirafiori plant – the home of the new Fiat…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is producing the new Fiat 500 in the company's most traditional and largest plant, in the Mirafiori district of Turin. The fully electric vehicle, which features unmistakable Italian style, the spirit of La Dolce Vita, technology and innovation will revolutionise the mobility of tomorrow, will be manufactured exactly where the first generation of the Fiat 1957 rolled off the production line in 500. With the opening of a completely new production line for the electric Fiat 500, the Mirafiori plant, which opened in 1939, is building a symbolic bridge between the past and the future.

Today, around 20.000 people work in the Mirafiori complex in production and the associated areas of development, design, sales, financial services and spare parts supply. Around 1.200 employees are employed in the production of the new Fiat 500. The factory is designed to produce 80.000 units per year, which can be increased if necessary. In total, FCA is investing more than 500 million euros in design, development and production facilities for the new Fiat 700. With technical development, design and production concentrated in Turin, the new Fiat 500 is completely "Made at Fiat" or "Made in Turin".

Newly built production for the Fiat 500
The design and technology of the fully electric Fiat 500 required the construction of a completely new production concept. In order to optimize the product and processes, the process of Augmented Reality where computer-generated scenarios supplemented traditional planning. With the help of a special logistics system, orders are recorded and this data is sent to external suppliers in advance. The system also arranges individual components in the order in which they are needed on the production line. The heart of the employee organization is the team leader, who coordinates a group of employees and is responsible for their training. The team leaders manage a small part of the process and are responsible for quality and production flow. For example, they can check and confirm each individual work step on monitors next to the production line or on their smartphone.

Production of the new Fiat 500 begins on the "Trim Line", which was designed with ergonomics in mind. The height of the workstations can be varied depending on the tasks to be completed and the parts to be assembled, so that employees can maintain a comfortable posture. The body shells reach the "Trim Line" after painting. The next step is the dismantling of the doors, which are completed on a special line. Robots are used, among other things, to apply sealing materials. The next step is the assembly of cables, the dashboard and the center console. Finally, the dashboard and the center console are installed in the body, which is then conveyed to the next station. Thanks to the covered area available at the FCA Mirafiori plant, logistics and component assembly are close to the production line, which significantly streamlines the entire process.

A production-specific feature is the operator terminal, a monitor at each workstation that records the progress of assembly. At the start of the shift, each employee logs into the system with their ID card and checks that all safety devices are working correctly. By tapping the screen, the employee can certify the required quality, request material or ask the team leader for assistance. When help is requested at the touch of a button, the team leader hears an alarm and receives a call on their smartphone. If the team leader is unable to solve the problem before the vehicle leaves the assembly station, the line stops automatically to allow further processing.

Another innovation that FCA introduced with the production of the new Fiat 500 concerns the assembly of the windows. Robots install the windshield and rear window with the utmost precision. Another new feature is the laser application of the chassis number. Compared to traditional technologies, this process ensures a better finish and generates neither noise nor vibrations.

The next step is the so-called marriage, the joining of the engine and the body. One of the most innovative elements in the production of the new Fiat 500 is the assembly of the electric drive. While one group of workers assembles the body, another team prepares the chassis and the components of the electric drive. Compared to a conventional vehicle, the platform of the new Fiat 500 includes the electric drive module and the battery block. After the drive unit has been installed in the body, the semi-finished vehicle is transported to the next station by state-of-the-art, automatic industrial trucks. There, the doors, seats and steering wheel are assembled under strict quality control. Another innovation in the production of the fully electric Fiat 500 is the technical equipment for final inspection: the roller test bench and chassis measurement do not require exhaust gas extraction.

FCA Mirafiori plant is completely converted for e-mobility
Opened in 1939, the Turin plant marked the beginning of modern production for Fiat. The complex is now one of the longest-running automobile factories in Europe. Covering an area of over two million square meters, it features nearly 12 kilometers of underground roads for transporting engines and components, and more than 20 kilometers of transport systems for moving materials and finished cars.

The history of the Mirafiori plant is inextricably linked to the history of Turin. In fact, the developments that the factory and the city have undergone over the decades are in some respects very similar. With the production of the new Fiat 500, a new chapter begins for this historic plant, which also represents a milestone in the history of FCA and the Italian automotive industry. In fact, FCA is currently undergoing a transformation that has its roots in the Mirafiori complex and the production there. But FCA's commitment to sustainable mobility, especially in Mirafiori, is not only focused on the new vehicle models, but also on innovative electrification systems. Within the complex, a pilot project for vehicle-to-grid technology (V2G) was implemented, a dedicated battery assembly plant was built and a large solar power plant with photovoltaic panels was put into operation. In addition, FCA has signed a cooperation agreement with the city of Turin to integrate electrified mobility into the infrastructure and management of restricted access zones (ZTL).

The Mirafiori plant has been a birthplace of brilliant ideas and futuristic projects since 1939. The factory has produced iconic vehicle models, written automotive history, advanced the development of technology and in many cases even initiated changes in Italian society. A first milestone was the Fiat Topolino, the smallest mass-produced automobile in the world in the late 1940s. In 1955, production of the Fiat 600 began. Italy's first people's car was so popular after just a few months on the market that the waiting time was up to a year. From 1957, the most iconic Fiat of all time was built in Mirafiori. The Cinquecento mobilized the entire nation after the Second World War and accompanied the economic miracle.

From 1980 onwards, the Fiat Panda was built in Mirafiori, a model that has been produced to date in three series with more than 7,5 million units. In 1983, the Fiat Uno was launched with a memorable presentation at NASA's Cape Canaveral Space Center in Florida, followed by the Fiat Punto in 1993. Fiat also produced the 1100, 127 and 131 models in Mirafiori. Almost every Italian family album contains photos showing a car built in this factory.

Mirafiori has changed just like the city of Turin, and successes and difficulties have shaped the joint development. Today, the complex, which includes the main Mirafiori plant and an extension in neighboring Grugliasco, employs around 20.000 people in production and the associated areas of development, design, sales, financial services and spare parts supply. This makes the complex FCA's largest plant worldwide. If you also take into account the catchment area of the plant in the Piedmont region, there are another 4.000 FCA employees and 40.000 employees who work for suppliers.

Fiat built the following models in Mirafiori: 500 "Topolino" (developed in 1939, production started in 1947), 1100 (1947), 1400 (1950), 1900 (1952), 1100/103 (1953), 600 (1955), 1200 (1957), 1800 (1959), 2100 (1959), 1300 (1961), 1500 (1961), 850 (1964), 124 (1966), 125 (1967), 127 (1971), 131 (1974), Panda (1980), Uno (1983), Croma (1985), Punto (1993), Marea (1996), Multipla (1998), Punto (1999), Stilo (2001), Idea (2003) and Grande Punto (2005). The plant also produced the Lancia Thema (1984), Autobianchi Y10 (1985), Lancia Lybra (2002), Lancia Thesis (2002), Lancia Musa (2004) as well as the Alfa Romeo Mito (since 2008) and Maserati Levante (since 2016). The new Fiat 500 now opens a new chapter in the history of the traditional plant.

More than just automobile production
In recent years, Mirafiori has undergone extensive renovation and expansion work. The Motor Village opened in 2006. Part of the historic wall at Gate 0 in Piazza Cattaneo, which once formed the dividing line between the factory and the city, was demolished. Near the Motor Village, an office building was extensively renovated and is now the headquarters of FCA Bank. Another area, where the new cars used to roll out of the factory, has been recultivated. The buildings of the former factory hall 2 are now a popular business and office district. The Centro Stile design center, the Abarth workshops and the offices of FCA Services and CNH Industrial are located here, as are the group's administration, IT and accounting departments.

This area also houses the Heritage Hub, the centre for the care of the incomparable historical heritage of the group's Italian brands. Inaugurated in 2019, the building is a workplace but also houses an impressive exhibition of over 250 vehicles from FCA's historical collection. In addition, FCA has always paid great attention to training. Today, the Mirafiori complex gives space to a campus of the Polytechnic University of Turin.

The transformation of the Turin plants also includes the former Fiat factory in neighboring Rivalta. When the renovation work there is completed by the beginning of next year, it will become a state-of-the-art distribution center for Mopar brand spare parts. From here, over 5.000 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and other markets around the world will be supplied. Fiat opened the Rivalta factory in 1967 and built the Fiat 124 Spider and the Dino, Ritmo and Bravo models, among others. In the future, the former Rivalta plant will house an innovative warehouse for the storage and distribution of accessories and spare parts, based on the principles of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
