Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has opened its first car dealership exclusively for electric and hybrid vehicles in Turin. The e-Village is located in the "Green Pea" complex, a unique architectural project with a focus on environmental technology on the site of the former Fiat Lingotto plant in the northern Italian metropolis.

"The 'Green Pea' complex is the ideal location for FCA's green jewels," commented Olivier François, President of Fiat and Chief Marketing Officer FCA. "In this innovative facility, we can show the new face of mobility. And not just with cars, but also with heart, soul and senses. e-Village should be simple and restrained, because simplicity and restraint go hand in hand with sustainability. 'Less is more' is rule number one when it comes to sustainability. But rule number two is thinking outside the box. The new e-Village will not only show the technology of our cars. It will also present innovative solutions for purchasing, renting, sharing, our new services, payment systems and new applications."

The "Green Pea" complex comprises five floors dedicated to changing people's relationship with energy, movement, housing, clothing and leisure. "Green Pea" has clearly defined geometries and follows the guiding principle of overall ecological awareness: zero impact on the environment. Three rules characterize the architectural project: reuse, recycle, reduce. The result is an innovative showcase for the mobility of the future. Many of the furnishings were made in collaboration with Stay Green, a designer and manufacturer of sustainable products "Made in Italy". Stay Green produces from recycled raw materials or reuses exhibition components that were previously used at automobile shows, for example. A highlight are large textile surfaces made from theBreath^®, a revolutionary material that can significantly reduce air pollution thanks to its absorbent properties.

FCA's new e-Village is located on the ground floor of "Green Pea". In a space of over 1.300 square meters, the best technologies in the field of green thinking come together. FCA, FCA Bank/Leasys and Mopar^® are jointly presenting an environmentally conscious and sustainable product range that is geared towards the well-being of the environment and the future of mobility. On display are the fully electric Fiat 500 and Fiat E-Ducato as well as the hybrid vehicles of the brands Fiat, Jeep_® and - exclusively for the Italian market - Lancia. Visitors to the e-Village can also learn about the Fiat Centoventi concept car, which offers a whole range of innovative solutions, including modular batteries for a scalable range, sustainable materials and reusable plug-and-play accessories. Also on display is an Alfa Romeo Tonale concept car, which will be the brand's second SUV model to be launched in 2021 and will then also be available in a plug-and-play hybrid version. The new e-Village, organizationally part of the Mirafiori Motor Village, also offers space for accessories and merchandising items from the group's brands, as well as a conference room.

At the heart of FCA's Sustainable Mobility strategy is the reconciliation of customer needs with environmental protection. This strategy reflects the desire to address environmental issues. One of the biggest challenges in this process for all car manufacturers is the redesign of mobility as a whole. Major changes are essential and must respond to customer demands, which are constantly evolving and expect ever greater attention to the environment.

The fully electric Fiat 500
The main attraction in the e-Village is the new Fiat 500, which is fully electric and is available in sedan and convertible body versions as well as the completely new 3+1 version. The new Fiat 500 is a prime example of the Italian virtues of style, tradition, innovation, craftsmanship and technology. The front of the vehicle, the face with the unmistakable headlights, contrasts with the modern, clean lines of the body and conveys a powerful, robust character. The interior continues with references to the historic predecessor, including the round instrument panel and the two-spoke steering wheel. Apart from these borrowings, the interior has been completely redesigned to improve comfort and space. The technological content and the numerous services that create a world around the new Fiat 500 are also innovative.

The new Fiat 500 is a completely new development, designed exclusively for electric drive. Clever solutions include the batteries housed in a block in the vehicle floor between the axles. This made it possible to create generous space for the interior and luggage compartment. At the same time, the low, central center of gravity has a positive effect on the driving dynamics of the Italian electric vehicle.

The result of this strategy is an agile car that is fun to drive, comfortable and quiet, and connected to the Internet even when on the move. The new Fiat 500 is a compact car suitable for use in the city, as easy to use as a smartphone. With a comparatively long range, the new Fiat 500 is the only car in this class to be able to drive autonomously at level 2, naturally with zero local emissions.

The new Fiat 500 is available in three trim levels: ACTION, PASSION and ICON, each offering specific features. All three offer a high standard in terms of technology, connectivity and safety.

Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid
In addition to the new Fiat Panda, the mild hybrid variants of the Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda can also be seen in the e-Village. Fiat's mild hybrid engine combines a three-cylinder petrol engine from the FireFly series, which generates 51 kW (70 hp) from a liter of displacement, with a belt starter generator (RSG), which works in the 12-volt electrical system and supports the combustion engine with an output of 3,6 kW when starting. The RSG draws its energy from a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 11 Ah. A new six-speed gearbox, which is tailored to the characteristics of the mild hybrid drive, ensures the power is transmitted to the front axle.

The hybrid system improves fuel efficiency without compromising performance. Compared to the four-cylinder petrol engine 1.2 8V with 50 kW (69 hp) from the FIRE series, CO₂-Emissions are reduced by an average of 20 percent, and by up to 30 percent in the new Fiat Panda Cross. In addition, the RSG system enables the automatic start-stop system to operate much more comfortably and without vibrations than a conventional starter motor. Buyers also benefit from all the advantages of the hybrid vehicle's type approval, which, in addition to meeting the Euro 6D Final emissions standard, can also include free access and freedom of movement in the city center, cheaper parking in the city center and tax relief, depending on local regulations.

Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe
Electrification is a fundamental aspect of Jeep's future strategy and represents the desire to become a leader in sophisticated, greener technologies, while maintaining the brand's historic values of adventure, authenticity, freedom and passion. With plug-in hybrid electric technology, Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe offer the best performance and driving pleasure of the two ranges. Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe are literally able to go anywhere and do anything. At the same time, they are ideal cars for everyday use in the city thanks to plug-in hybrid technology, which enables locally emission-free driving with an average range of up to 50 kilometers (measured according to the NEDC2 cycle) in fully electric mode.

The new Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe Plug-in-Hybrid models are available in the Limited, S and Trailhawk trim levels. All variants are equipped with four-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. There is a choice of two power levels with 140 kW (190 hp) or 177 kW (260 hp) system output. The Business trim level is also available for the Jeep Compass 4xe.

A characteristic feature of both models is the wide range of body colors. The Jeep Renegade has 18 single or two-tone variants, some in combination with a black roof, and the Jeep Compass even has 22 versions. Jeep has developed a comprehensive range of charging solutions for public and private areas around the electrified drive systems, with the easyWallbox at the center.

The Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic
The Lancia Ypsilon is still available in Italy. The new model version Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic, which is available in Silver and Gold trim levels, is equipped with the same mild hybrid drive as the Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid.

The Fiat E-Ducato
Fiat Professional, FCA's van specialists, have set themselves the goal of offering comprehensive solutions for electric mobility in the commercial sector. Based on an analysis of energy needs, these solutions not only cover every single task, but also provide answers to vehicle and infrastructure issues, as well as a whole range of everyday services that are increasingly required by new forms of mobility.

The Fiat E-Ducato is offered with modularly scalable battery sizes that ensure ranges in a typical urban delivery cycle of 200 to over 360 kilometers, depending on environmental conditions, battery type and charging configuration. In addition, the fully electric van has high performance potential. The speed is limited to 100 km/h. The power is 90 kW, the maximum torque is 280 Newton meters. The new electric motor underlines the strengths of the Fiat E-Ducato. These include the best-in-class loading volume of ten to 17 cubic meters and the best-in-class payload of up to 1.950 kilograms. In addition, the Fiat E-Ducato offers modern connectivity, for example for managing vehicle fleets.

Mopar's offer^®
Mopar’s offer^® to the electrified vehicle models from Fiat and Jeep will be presented in the new e-Village in the “Green Pea” complex. In particular, Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe can be equipped with a wide range of authentic accessories from Mopar^® Both models are available with more than 100 accessories that emphasize their versatility as a vehicle for both city and off-road use. These include the new 4xe package, which includes blue styling accents for the bonnet and exterior mirror caps, as well as high-quality floor mats.

For the fully electric Fiat 500, Mopar is concentrating^® on fashionable elements, for example with the brass, chrome and matt grey Maratea packages. A special storage set for the charging cable, which increases its service life, has great practical value. Also available are 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a large selection of roof racks.

The offer of FCA Bank
Shared and electric mobility are two important cornerstones of the ecological sustainability strategy of the FCA Bank Group, which also presents its offering in the "Green Pea" complex. Among other things, a charging station for the new Fiat 500 operated by Leasys is on display.

In 2020, FCA Bank also introduced a range of financing solutions with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. The “Be-Hybrid” program links the purchase of a hybrid or electric car to the planting of a tree, organized by the environmental organization Treedom. Leasys' innovative mobility solutions also include the "Leasys Miles Hybrid" billing model, long-term rentals via "Be Free Hybrid" and the innovative "Leasys CarCloud" subscription program, which includes options for FCA's hybrid models and the fully electric Fiat 500. "LeasysGO" is the first car sharing program whose entire fleet consists of new Fiat 500s. Subscribers can sign up for 120 minutes of car sharing per month. 900 Euro subsidy – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles offers state-funded…

In order to accelerate the spread of electrified vehicle models, the federal government is supporting the development of the necessary charging infrastructure. Private households can benefit from a subsidy of 900 euros from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) for selected, so-called intelligent home charging stations.

On the list of approved systems: the EVBox ELVI Connected Wallbox from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). The car manufacturer offers the EVBox ELVI Connected Wallbox in collaboration with ENGIE EPS, a company specializing in this technology, for the new, purely electric Fiat 500 and the new plug-in hybrid models from Jeep_® the Wrangler 4xe, the Renegade 4xe and the Compass 4xe. The KfW funding for the wallbox can be combined with environmental and innovation bonuses for the vehicle purchase.

The KfW grant is subject to a number of conditions that affect both the applicant and the system. Only privately used charging stations in apartments or private parking spaces are subsidized. If there are several charging stations, multiple subsidies can be granted. Private individuals, tenants, landlords and communities of apartment owners are eligible to apply. The electricity fed into the grid must come 100 percent from renewable sources.

The most important technical requirements for the charging station are a maximum limit of 11 kilowatts of charging current and the ability of the wallbox to communicate with the control system of the public power grid. Both factors are intended to ensure that power grids are not overloaded. And the EVBox ELVI Connected Wallbox from FCA meets both requirements.

The EVBox ELVI Connected Wallbox is available for Jeep's plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) in a version that charges with up to 3,7 kW. The same wallbox is also offered for the purely electric Fiat 500. FCA also sells a charging station with an output of up to 22 kW for this model. However, this can easily be throttled to a maximum output of up to 11 kW by specialist personnel, who are required to install the eligible charging stations anyway. Also important: The application for funding must be submitted to KfW before purchasing the EVBox ELVI Connected Wallbox. Detailed information on this can be found on the KfW website.

FCA is continuously expanding its digital ecosystem for electromobility
The intelligent home charging stations are just one component of the comprehensive digital ecosystem for electromobility that FCA has already built up and is constantly expanding. FCA integrates a wide range of its own services as well as offers from industry partners in order to be able to offer buyers of vehicle models from FCA brands a holistic mobility service. FCA relies on its own Uconnect infotainment system as an on-board interface^TM, which has proven itself in ever new development stages in the Group's vehicle models for years.

One offer from FCA is the free smartphone application GOe, which is available in two versions tailored to the electric and plug-in hybrid models of the Fiat and Jeep brands. Both apps are available for the Android and iOS operating systems. In the future, the application will list, for example, the funding programs for buyers of electric cars in the region based on a postcode.

GOe also lists charging stations along the route and indicates when the batteries need to be recharged. The two GOe apps also provide a comprehensive overview of the world of FCA's electrified vehicles. Users can find answers to their questions about e-mobility and learn more about the technical specifications of the new Fiat 500 and the new Jeep plug-in hybrid models. There is also the option to book a test drive and request a quote from a car dealership of their choice.

The Fiat GOe LIVE and Jeep GO 4xe LIVE apps will soon be complemented by a special app for Fiat Professional's electric vans. The PRO-FIT by E-Ducato application analyses the total cost of ownership of the vehicle based on planned mileage and specific usage requirements and draws up suggestions for configuring the Fiat E-Ducato.

Together with HARMAN (Samsung) and Google, FCA has developed technologies based on the 4G and 5G mobile communications standards that ensure communication between on-board electronics and, for example, the intelligent infrastructure in the cities of the future. The technology also makes it possible to provide the vehicle's software with updates on the move, using the so-called over-the-air (OTA) process. The platform also supports FCA's mobility offerings, including options for mileage-based billing, usage-based insurance rates, short, medium and long-term vehicle rentals and car-sharing programs between private individuals (peer-to-peer).

The constantly expanding digital ecosystem guarantees an optimal technological environment for FCA's electrified vehicles today and in the future, in order to use applications such as remote battery monitoring or intelligent navigation, as well as to control the feed-in of electricity from the vehicle to the grid (vehicle-to-grid). FCA has just launched the world's largest project to research V2G technology at the Mirafiori plant in Turin.

Jeep celebrates 80th anniversary with special edition models

– 2021 will be a special year for Jeep®.
– The brand celebrates 80 years of leading 4×4 capabilities, open-air freedom and adventure.

Since the Jeep legend began in 1941 with the first mass-produced 4×4 vehicle, the Willys MB, and continued in 1949 with the introduction of the first sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Willys Station Wagon, the Jeep® brand has always pioneered new segments and new technologies.

The year 2021 will therefore be marked by Jeep's 80th anniversary, which will repeatedly put the brand and its heritage in the spotlight with events and offers. Part of the anniversary will also be distinctive 80th Anniversary special models.

Specific features such as distinctive seat covers, wheel designs and anniversary badges will give the vehicles a special look. Jeep's modern combustion and plug-in hybrid drives will be available to choose from, as well as advanced Jeep technologies for safety and connectivity. For fans of thrilling, legendary off-road performance, Jeep_® today introduced the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 with V8 engine, which will be available in North America from 2021.

This most capable, fastest and most powerful Wrangler ever built by Jeep is powered by FCA's 6,4-liter V8 engine with an output of 346 kW (470 hp)¹ and a torque of 637 Newton meters, together with the crisp-shifting TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and the automatic Selec-Trac transfer case, result in breathtaking performance: the Wrangler Rubicon 96 accelerates from zero to 392 kilometers per hour in just 4,5 seconds and completes the quarter-mile sprint in 13,0 seconds. And all of this with a factory warranty.

Off the asphalt, the powerful four-wheel drive train of the Trail Rated^® Wrangler Rubicon 392 does what it can, with heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, an axle ratio of 3,73, a torque converter lock-up control, a body lift of five centimeters and 33-inch tires on 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

This drive, together with 392 centimeters of ground clearance, 26,2 degrees front and 44,5 degrees rear approach angle, 37,5 degrees ramp angle and a fording depth of up to 22,6 centimeters, makes the Wrangler Rubicon 82,5 the most powerful Jeep in the brand's history to date. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 confidently handles steep inclines and declines with minimal use of the accelerator and brakes.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, unveiled today, will go on sale in North America in the first quarter of 2021.

Top performance and lots of torque

With the introduction of the 6.4 V8, an eight-cylinder engine can be ordered as a factory option for the Wrangler for the first time. The V8 was adapted for the installation space under the bonnet of the Wrangler Rubicon 392, where it develops 346 kW (470 hp) and delivers 637 Newton meters of torque. Almost 75 percent of the torque is already available just above idling speed. This results in exciting performance values, regardless of whether the Wrangler Rubicon 392 accelerates from a standstill to 4,5 kilometers per hour in 96 seconds or crawls up steep inclines.

The 6.4 V8 is built on a cast iron block with aluminum cylinder heads. An active intake manifold, variable camshaft control, two spark plugs per cylinder, sodium-filled exhaust valves, intake valves with a hollow shaft and oil spray cooling for the piston crowns ensure performance as well as thermal resistance. If only a small part of the power is required when swimming in everyday traffic, a shut-off device for four of the eight cylinders ensures lower fuel consumption.

The 6.4 V8 gets the cool, dense air it needs to breathe, among other things, from an air scoop on the bonnet. The challenge for the Jeep engineers was to ensure this air supply in all circumstances that the Wrangler Rubicon 392 could be exposed to - regardless of terrain and weather. To do this, they developed the Hydro-Guide ™ air intake system, which in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 consists of a three-stage duct system with a number of drains, including a drainage outlet in the air box that can divert any incoming water away from the intake air. Due to the high capacity of this drain with up to 56 liters per minute, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 can wade through water up to 82,5 centimeters deep, even if the bow wave should slosh over the bonnet and thus also into the air intake hood. Also, when the hood air scoop is compromised by snow, mud, or other debris, a secondary air path within the hood structure supplies the V8 with air. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 can reach its top speed even with a completely blocked primary airway.

A Jeep Wrangler with a V8 has an inspiring and unmistakable sound. This is ensured by the active dual-mode exhaust system with valves that open automatically when the engine is loaded to reduce the exhaust gas back pressure. The driver can also activate the system at the push of a button. The double-flow exhaust system ends with a four-way exhaust pipe.

Well equipped for performance

The proven TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission with high torque capacity enables quick, precise gear changes under all driving conditions. For the first time, a Wrangler driver can also manually select gear changes using aluminum paddles on the steering wheel.

The fully electronic transmission control selects different shift patterns depending on the respective input parameters for different driving conditions and thus ideally adjusts the transmission to the performance requirements of almost every situation. The drive calibration of the Wrangler Rubicon 392 includes a torque reserve and a so-called AMax shift logic (Aacceleration Maximizing) for dynamic braking and increased engine speed, which provides maximum acceleration for starting on solid ground. The torque reserve, an engine strategy used by drag racers, controls the flow of fuel to the cylinders and advance or retard ignition to adjust engine speed and torque for maximum performance. The AMax circuit is already used in the launch control of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Power for the asphalt, ready for the Rubicon

The drive of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 brings its power to all four wheels, constantly. The heart of the fully automatic four-wheel drive is the active Selec-Trac transfer case with an off-road reduction ratio of 2,72: 1. The transfer case has four driver-selectable modes: 4WD Auto, 4WD H, Neutral and 4WD L. The Selec-Trac transfer case also allows the Wrangler Rubicon 392 to be towed.

Off-road, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 has the legendary capabilities Jeep is known for.

This includes:

Offroad Plus, with the modes sand and rock: One push of a button maximizes the traction capabilities of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. The modes set the accelerator pedal, gear shift points and traction control so that the best performance is achieved both on faster passages on sand and when crawling over rock . The “Offroad Plus” driving mode also gives the driver the option of locking the rear axle differential in 4WD High at high speeds.
The cruise control Selec-Speed Control controls the vehicle speed in "4WD Low" without having to press the accelerator or brake. Selec-Speed Control is activated via a button, the automatically maintained crawling speed can be set from one to eight kilometers per hour and easily changed while driving.

Reinforced frame for the most powerful Wrangler

To make full use of the Wrangler Rubicon 392's engine power and torque, Jeep engineers have reinforced the ladder frame, upper front control arms and cast-iron steering knuckles. In addition, heavy-duty brakes bring the Wrangler Rubicon 392 to a stop reliably.

Its off-road capabilities are supported by the wide track and the high-performance Dana 44 axles with thicker axle tubes as well as the electronic Tru-Lok locking differentials. An electrically decoupled anti-roll bar on the front axle maximizes suspension travel and axle articulation for demanding off-road conditions.

In addition to the tried and tested five-link front and rear suspension, a lift height of five centimeters and single-tube high-pressure gas shock absorbers from FOX maximize the handling and comfort of the Wrangler Rubicon 392.

Bronze as a sign of something special

While the factory-made five centimetre lift already gives you an initial indication of the Wrangler Rubicon 392 from a distance, as you get closer you notice bronze accents as a clear sign of the most powerful Jeep Wrangler. The lettering 'Jeep', 'Rubicon' and '392' shimmer in a bronze-coloured outline, and the 'Trail Rated' emblem and the tow hooks are also in bronze.

Adopted from the Jeep Gladiator Mojave, an engine hood that is 40 millimeters higher arches over the V8, with an air intake scoop for fresh air supply to the engine and for wading ability. The bronze-framed '392' lettering on the sides of the air scoop indicate the largest displacement that Jeep has ever offered for a Wrangler: 392 cubic inches or 6,4 liters.

The 17 x 7,5 inch, beadlock-capable wheels are also kept in bronze. The original black locking ring is available from Mopar.

The interior remains with the bronze tone for the accent stitching of the leather upholstery and the 'Rubicon 392' emblem in the front seat backrests in the theme of the exterior design. New - and exclusive - for the Rubicon 392 are the shift paddles for the first time to be found on a Wrangler steering wheel for quick manual intervention in the gear changes of the eight-speed automatic transmission.

The modern Uconnect infotainment system with a full-color TFT touchscreen with a screen diagonal of 21 centimeters is of course also standard in the Top-Wrangler. Rubicon drivers in particular appreciate the off-road pages contained in the software, which display parameters such as body inclination, height above sea level, GPS coordinates, drive force distribution and a lot more in attractive and intuitive graphics.
