From July 21, 2020, Jeep® dealers in Germany will accept orders for Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe, Jeep's first plug-in hybrid models.
Electrification is a fundamental step in Jeep's development towards technologies that are increasingly less harmful to the environment, without compromising the brand's values of freedom, adventure and authenticity. Thanks to plug-in hybrid technology, the new 4xe models offer the best performance and driving dynamics in the history of Jeep SUVs and follow the brand motto "Go anywhere - do anything", which includes adventures off the beaten track as well as everyday journeys in urban areas, where customers have a locally emission-free electric range of up to 50 kilometers (NEDC procedure) at their disposal. Fun becomes efficient, and Jeep's legendary off-road capability harmonizes even better with respect for the environment.
Jeep® Renegade and Jeep Compass 4xe: “green” power and range
The two new plug-in hybrid Jeep models feature a hybrid solution that integrates Jeep's technical layout and takes 4×4 capabilities to the next level - with the safety of always-on four-wheel drive. And all this with more power of up to 177 kW (240 hp) and less environmental impact thanks to a purely electric range of up to 50 kilometers (NEDC procedure) and a maximum of 48 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer (NEDC procedure) in hybrid mode.
Both models combine a 1,3-liter turbo gasoline engine to drive the front axle with an electric motor installed above the rear axle that drives the rear wheels. The electric motor is powered by a battery with a capacity of 11,4 kilowatt hours, which can be charged while driving or from an external power source: at home from a domestic socket and with the efficient Jeep easyWallbox or the even more advanced Connected Wallbox, or at a public charging station. The 1,3-liter gasoline engine delivers either 96 kW (130 hp) or 132 kW (180 hp), which together with the electric motor, which always delivers 44 kW (60 hp), results in a system output of 140 kW (190 hp) or 177 kW (240 hp).
The electric motor alone generates a torque of 250 Newton meters, the combustion engine 270 Newton meters. The combination of both drive sources stands for performance and a very special driving pleasure: the 4xe models accelerate from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in under eight seconds, reach a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour in purely electric mode and up to 200 kilometers per hour in hybrid mode. Fast response and refined power delivery ensure maximum driving pleasure.
The three driving modes of the 4xe models result from the synergy of the electric and combustion engines. Electric is the ideal mode for driving in urban areas, Hybrid offers optimal system efficiency and E-Save focuses on protecting and charging the battery. Other functions for electrified driving include Sport mode, in which the combustion engine and electric motor work together for maximum driving performance, complemented by sportier calibration for the steering and accelerator pedal, E-Coaching for a driving style with the most efficient energy management possible and Smart Charging, which allows the charging process to be organized from the car's Uconnect system or from a compatible smartphone.
The equipment includes a new, seven-inch TFT color display that provides specific information about electric driving, such as the battery charge level, the range in electric, combustion engine or combined mode and the progress of the charging process. The 8,4-inch color screen of the Uconnect infotainment system in the 4xe models shows new displays for energy flow, driving history, setting charging times and managing the eSave mode and the various charging settings.
Complete model range with safety and modern connectivity
Both the Jeep Renegade 4xe and the Jeep Compass 4xe are available in three equipment variants: 'Limited', 'S' and the off-road specialist 'Trailhawk', all with four-wheel drive, a system output of 140 kW (190 hp) or 177 kW (240 hp) depending on the equipment version and a new six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Renegade and Compass 4xe offer state-of-the-art connectivity to meet the needs of increasingly demanding customers with the new Uconnect™ services. Five different packages - My Assistant, My Car, My Remote, My Navigation and My eCharge - ensure advanced connectivity inside and outside the vehicle and useful services for greater safety and comfort. The new My eCharge package, which supports payment and use of public charging stations, is specific to the 4xe models.
Other functions for electric driving include monitoring the battery charge level directly via the My Uconnect mobile app, which can also plan the charging process and air conditioning and display the nearest charging stations. The range of Uconnect services is complemented by the optional service packages My Wi-Fi, My Theft Assistance and My Fleet Manager, which can be purchased on the My Uconnect web portal.
The Uconnect 8,4″ navigation system is standard or optional on the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe, depending on the equipment.
The new 4xe models are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, including Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Speed Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition (Renegade only) as well as parking sensors. Available safety features also include Blind Spot Assist, ParkView rearview camera with dynamic grid lines, automatic parallel and perpendicular parking assist and Keyless Enter-N-Go. The Jeep Renegade 4xe also has a new fatigue detection system as standard, which is offered for the first time in a Jeep.
Always charged
Charging the high-voltage battery on the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe is simple and intuitive. Both models offer seamless integration of a compatible smartphone and the Uconnect system's touchscreen to manage charging according to the driver's needs and lifestyle. The battery is charged either while driving by the combustion engine and by means of recuperation when braking, or at an external, appropriate socket at home using a household plug, or at a public charging station using the specific Type 2 cable available on request.
To optimise charging times and offer additional, safe solutions for the home, customers can choose FCA's practical easyWallbox, which allows the battery to be connected to a standard household socket and offers fast charging, remote control and charging management via an app. Alternatively, there is the advanced Connected Wallbox, which adds connectivity services and can be controlled remotely.
With the standard charging cable for the domestic socket and the optional cable for public charging stations, future owners receive a "plug & play" solution with a charging power of up to three kilowatts, depending on the charging station, and a charging time of 3,5 hours. The hardware makes it possible to increase the charging power to 7,4 kilowatts, which reduces the charging time to under two hours minutes.
