Rally Fafe Montelongo in Portugal: As part of the FIA…
– This weekend the next round of the FIA ERC European Rally Championship takes place in Portugal: the Rally Fafe Montelongo is also the third race in the Abarth Rally Cup.
– In addition, the Italian F4 monoposti powered by Abarth engines are racing on the Mugello Circuit.
A double challenge for the Abarth brand and its drivers: this weekend they will be competing in the ERC and the Italian Formula 4.
Portugal is hosting the Rally Fafe Montelongo, which has been included in the FIA ERC European Rally Championship calendar for the first time. At the same time, the young drivers of the Italian Formula 4 powered by Abarth are competing in their fourth race weekend at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.
The Rally Fafe Montelongo is the third race in the Abarth Rally Cup, whose calendar has been expanded to six ERC events with the addition of the Spa Rally. The race will take place in December - and has all the special features that only a winter rally can offer. Remember the victory that the intrepid Walter Röhrl achieved with the Fiat 131 Abarth Rally in 1980 at the Monte Carlo Rally.
The Fafe Montelongo Rally, part of the Portuguese Rally Championship, is characterized by an often undulating asphalt route. Fast corners and tight hairpin bends on smooth surfaces alternate. The rally represents a challenge for the drivers, but fits perfectly with the characteristics of the Abarth 124 rally: the vehicle is characterized by excellent balance and the ability to quickly adapt to changing route requirements. The route is 527 kilometers long, including 18 special stages spread over 183 kilometers of time trials.
The race takes place in and around Fafe, a small town in northern Portugal with a great rally tradition. The schedule includes a qualifying session on Friday 2 October at 16pm. The first leg starts on Saturday at 8:30am and ends at 18:45pm. The second leg starts on Sunday at 8:30am and finishes at 18:30pm.
At the same time, the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello is hosting the fourth round of the Italian Formula 4 powered by Abarth. Around 30 young drivers will be competing in the Abarth-powered single-seaters. Among them are five drivers who will be making their debut - one of them is Lorenzo Patrese, son of former Formula 1 driver and vice world champion Riccardo Patrese.
After the first race weekends with three races each, two Italian drivers, Gabriele Minì and Francesco Pizzi, are leading the overall standings. Third is Briton Jonny Edgar, fourth is American Jak Crawford. Minì has won two of the nine races so far, and his compatriot Andrea Rosso (6th in the overall standings) has also won twice. Pizzi, Edgar, Crawford, Romanian Filip Ugran and German Joshua Dürksen have each been on the top step of the podium in one race.
The schedule for the weekend in Tuscany includes two qualifying sessions on Saturday 3 October at 9:30 a.m. Race 1 will take place that afternoon at 15.25:11.40 p.m. On Sunday, race 16.40 will start at XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. and race XNUMX at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
